Gatherings — by Deciten
Child safety standards
Effective September 3, 2026 · Reviewed annually
Gatherings has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page is our published standard: what is prohibited, how to report it, what we do when we receive a report, and who to contact.
The short version
- Gatherings is an 18+ service. It is not directed to children, and nobody under 18 may hold an account.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any sexualisation of a minor are banned outright — no warning, no second chance.
- Report it from inside the app, or email support@gatheringsapp.com. Reports come straight to our team.
- Confirmed CSAE means the content is removed, the account is terminated, evidence is preserved, and we report it to the authorities named below.
- Designated point of contact: support@gatheringsapp.com.
Who Gatherings is for
Gatherings is an 18+ service and is not directed to children. You must be 18 or older to create an account. Accounts we find to belong to someone under 18 are removed, and their content is deleted.
Gatherings brings people together at real, in-person gatherings. Because of that, keeping minors off the platform is not a formality to us — it is a condition of the product working safely at all.
What is prohibited
The following are prohibited everywhere on Gatherings — in profiles, display names, photos, gathering titles and descriptions, feed posts, and any message or link — and are grounds for immediate and permanent termination:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any image, video, or text depicting the sexual abuse or sexual exploitation of a minor.
- Sexualisation of a minor in any form, including material that is drawn, edited, computer-generated, or produced with artificial intelligence.
- Grooming — building a relationship with a minor to facilitate sexual contact or exploitation, on or off the platform.
- Sextortion — threatening to expose intimate material to coerce a minor.
- Solicitation of a minor for sexual purposes, or of sexual material from a minor.
- Trafficking, advertising, or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a minor.
- Facilitating any of the above — linking to it, promoting it, coordinating it, or using Gatherings to move the conversation somewhere else in order to do it.
This standard applies regardless of intent, framing, humour, or claims that the subject is fictional or an adult in costume.
How to report
Anyone can report a child safety concern, whether or not they are involved and whether or not they hold a Gatherings account.
- In the app — use the report control on the content or account in question and choose the reason that fits. You can add detail in the note field.
- By email — support@gatheringsapp.com, with "Child safety" in the subject line. Include a link, a screenshot, or a description specific enough for us to find the content or account.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then tell us, so we can preserve the evidence.
We do not disclose a reporter's identity to the person they reported.
What we do when we receive a report
- Review. Child safety reports come straight to our team.
- Remove. Confirmed violating content is deleted from the platform.
- Terminate. The account is permanently terminated, and we take the steps available to us to prevent the same person re-registering.
- Preserve. We preserve the material and the associated account records as required by law, so that they are available to the authorities. This preservation obligation overrides our normal deletion schedule, including the 24-hour deletion of gathering content.
- Report. We report to the authorities below, and cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
Reporting to the authorities
Gatherings is operated from Toronto, Canada. We report apparent child sexual abuse material and related offences to:
| Where | Who we report to |
|---|---|
| Canada | Cybertip.ca, operated by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, and to law enforcement, as required by Canada's mandatory internet child pornography reporting legislation. |
| United States | The NCMEC CyberTipline. |
| Elsewhere | The relevant national reporting body or law enforcement agency for the jurisdiction involved. |
We do not require a court order to make these reports, and we do not notify the reported account that a report to authorities has been made.
How the product is built to reduce risk
- 18+ only. The service is for people 18 and over, and minors-only gatherings are not permitted to be created.
- Reporting and blocking are available to participants on the content and people they encounter.
- Content is ephemeral by design — what is shared in a gathering is deleted within 24 hours. Where we are required to preserve material for a child safety investigation, that requirement takes precedence.
- Reports come straight to our team.
